Axes and hatchets are unexpectedly interesting, and are also an important part of Pennsylvania history! The longest-running American axe company (1830-2003) was based in PA, and Tyrone, Bellefonte and Lewistown are all important places in the history of axe manufacture. The Juniata River produced power and cooled the hot metal. Our presenter is Aaron Hileman, an antique tool collector based in Claysburg, who will show us examples of collectible axes and hatchets from PA as well as from Sweden, Germany, and Australia. This is a free program and no signup is needed; it is geared for adults although school aged students are also welcome to attend. It will be held May 30 at 6:00 pm.
